Becoming a parent is not always what you expect it to be. It is beautiful, it is filled with love and excitement, and it is the biggest blessing. But it is also fear, a huge wave of mixed emotions, and it is lonely. Lonely? Well, sometimes yes.
I think as parents, we tell ourselves that we can do it all by ourselves, as if asking for help makes us less? Unfit? Not ready? But that is far from the truth.
Asking for help when you need it is one of the most courageous things you can do! You are letting your guard down and giving your body and mind the rest it needs and very much deserves! You won’t believe how happy people will be to help out. You have a community of love and support, so use it. Do you feel like going to the grocery store by yourself? Call Grandma! Need a nap? Call up your best friend and ask. Want to make dinner in peace? Ask your partner for help. There is always going to be someone there who is more than happy to lend a hand. You are not alone.
Giving yourself time to recharge will help you tremendously down the road. It will make you more patient, sharp, and happy. It does wonders for your mental health. We know how much you love and care for your little one – asking for a break every now and then does not change that. Take care of yourself, too.
Take into consideration just how much you do for that little one of yours. You’re doing a great job, so reward yourself. Be there for you.
