If you are a new parent, or will be soon, you might have this concept in your mind. “Getting Back to Normal” is a sneaking idea that permeates a lot of the language around birth and parenthood.

New moms might be thinking of their body returning to its pre-birth condition. You both might be thinking of how soon you can carry out your normal routine. Or go out like normal. Or spend time together like normal.

The thing is, your normal is about to change.

Instead of trying to make your new family fit your old normal, instead, look for ways to make the best parts of your old normal carry into your new.

Go into this with open eyes. Not trying to go back to before, but open to the myriad of possibilities and joys that are now available to you. Release expectations and embrace gratitude.

You’re going to love normal even more after this.
